Our First Feature of the Designer's Edge is a Wool and Silk rug designed by Burdi Filek Design, supplied by The Sullivan Source, for Holt Renfrew's Men's department in Toronto, Canada. Perhaps you have seen this carpet, in picture or in person, now let me take a few minutes to give you the inside story. |
| In the industry, it is common to see two types of carpets. First, a patterned carpet which is usually one quality throughout and focuses on the design. You will see this in Woven, Axminster, Persian and Tibetan products. On the other side, you have textured carpets like Seagrass and Sisals which focus on texture. In order to combine those, you can have them seamed together which is very limiting and causes poor pattern matching and a number of other difficulties. We have an extensive line of textures and unlike conventional carpet manufacturers, our textures are not limited in any way. We can use our textures as backgrounds and integrate pattern during manufacturing, which avoids design defects and unsightly seams. This brings a level of elegance and beauty that is unmatched in the industry. The carpet featured above is an excellent example of effectively combining texture and pattern. The background of this carpet is our Aztec texture. Not only does this multi color texture look beautiful, but it is also a very practical decision to hide wear and dirt in this commercial application. The rounded squares in this carpet are pure silk which adds the luxurious shimmer to the carpet. Also, you will notice a color variance in the center of the rounded squares. Some are the same color as the field and others are darker which brings another dimension to the carpet and creates interest. Custom carpet is such a unique portion of the industry that is commonly overlooked. Everyone would rather put an original Picasso, Van Gogh or Renoir on their wall rather than a print, so what about your floor? Why have a carpet that is one of thousands across the world when you can have a one of a kind masterpiece crafted especially for you? Always remember, at Miritech Carpets, anything is possible and you are only limited by your imagination. |
